Manchester City Council Libraries have now been designated as Cool Spaces where members of the public can get shelter from the sun, free water, a place to cool down and resting areas.
They have been providing the cool spaces offer since 1 June 2025, not just in cases of extreme heat, but on days when people simply need to stay out of the sun. Libraries are friendly locations and offer easy access to drinking water. Please ask a staff member for help in getting free water.
If you would like to sign up to offer your community space as a Cool Space please visit: Sign-up to be a Community Cool Space | Cool spaces to beat the heat in Manchester | Manchester City Council
Please also promote the Refill scheme which can help people get access to free water across the City:
