“A Rights Respecting school develops children’s voice and confidence and impacts positively on wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem. “
Barlow Hall is a Gold Award UNICEF Rights Respecting school. A Rights Respecting school develops children’s voice and confidence and impacts positively on wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem.
Together we will learn about children’s rights through a series of assemblies, lessons and whole school activities in order for this to become an integral part of our school ethos.
We are now working to maintain our Gold Award.
Our School Charter
The Barlow Hall Primary School Charter features 4 Articles that have been voted for by the children throughout school. These Articles were considered the most important and relevant and will be discussed and spoken about throughout school, from EYFS right up to Yr 6.
They underpin our behaviours, interactions and we are passionate about their place at Barlow Hall Primary School.
Article 2 – NON DISCRIMINATION
Article 2 states all children have rights, and individual children and young people shouldn’t be discriminated against regarding these rights.
This covers both direct and indirect discrimination.
Article 12 – RESPECT FOR THE VIEWS OF THE CHILD
Article 12 states that children still have the human right to have opinions and for these opinions to be heard and taken seriously. It says that the opinions of children and young people should be considered when people make decisions about things that involve them.
Their opinions shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand on the grounds of age.
Article 28 – RIGHT TO AN EDUCATION
Article 28 states that children and young people have the right to education no matter who they are: regardless of race, gender or disability; if they’re in detention, or if they’re a refugee.
Article 31 – RIGHT TO RELAX AND PLAY
Article 31 states that children and young people have the right to have fun in the way they want to, whether by playing sports, watching films, or doing something else entirely. They have the right to rest, too.
