World Book Day at Barlow Hall
As a member of the Manchester Teaching School Alliance Barlow hall is responsible for offering a number of different reading courses to teachers from other schools, so, as you would expect. World Book Day at Barlow hall was never going to be a simple, or boring affair. In fact World Book day this year was not even going to be a one day event, but a week long event encompassing lots of different activities.
Key amongst this week's events were visits by Year 5 and Year 6 to Manchester's Central Library where they listened to author Maz Evans reading excepts from her new book,'Who let the Gods Out'. Following the readings both groups had the opportunity to buy signed copies of Ms Evan's books, All classes in school were also regaled with a variety of stories by John Ryland's Library Storyteller, Mitchell Robinson. Meandering his way through the chosen texts, Mr Robinson drew the children into his tales and built to crescendo with the apparent ease of a true professional. The children's faces so accurately depicted the range of emotions engendered by the story and every class session finished with a hearty round of applause.
World Book Day itself, as usual, did not disappoint with staff and children alike arriving in school dressed as a wide and varied range of favourite book characters and Reception class parents were treated to their own storytelling session at the end of the day.
Thank you to everyone who supported World Book Day in any capacity and to Ms Roche who worked hard to co-ordinate events.
