At Barlow Hall we put the mental, emotional and physical wellbeing of our pupils at the forefront of everything we do. PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) education is at the core of our daily routines and interactions and is embedded across our curriculum.
We have combined the statutory requirements and guidance of the national curriculum with recommendations from the PSHE Association and Manchester Healthy Schools IMatter Curriculum to create our own programme of study. Our programme of study reflects the needs of our pupils and the community in which they live. Where appropriate links have been made to support our Rights Respecting School ethos and British Values.
Our PSHE curriculum consists of three core themes and is adapted to ensure there is clear progression of knowledge, skills and understanding. The core themes are:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Living in the Wider World (Economic Well Being and Being a Responsible Citizen)
Our IMatter PSHE Curriculum covers the following themes:
- Relationships and Sex Education
- Mental and Emotional Health
- Keeping Safe
- Healthy Lifestyles
- Living in the Wider World
In March we began our consultation with parents and carers about our RSE curriculum offer and will respond to parent questions and concerns in April.
To support the consultation process we published our RSE and curriculum resources for our RSE lessons as downloads on this page. There are three lessons per year group and these will be taught during summer 2 each year.
As a school we will ensure that the education we offer is age appropriate, sensitively presented and supports our children’s knowledge and understanding.
Parents have the right to withdraw from specific lessons following a discussion with the school.
Further information can be found by reading the download on the right entitled: Parent Consultation on the Relationship and Sex education. (Please note the parental survey stage has now ended and any concerns will be incorporated into our Parent's Meeting on 20th April.
Links to individual Key stage lessons can be found on the tabs to the right of this page or click here: KS1 RSE Lesson Information
